The WCS School Board met for its monthly work session on Thursday, November 16th. The meeting lasted around 3 hours.
A number of issues were discussed including potential new schools, lack of bus drivers, next year’s school calendar and two grants totaling $1,081,000 to be added to the budget. It was also mentioned that enrollment has gone down in the last year.
Two items to note from the meeting:
1. They continued to protect our public comment policy and Eliot Mitchell led the way with two comments that summed up everyone’s but Eric Welch’s feelings on the subject: “don’t throw the baby out with the bath water” and “Comments are only 30 minutes, we can stand to listen for that time even if we don’t want to hear what is being said”.
2. Was the 5G issue. Over 750 parents signed a petition against placing any 5G tower near a school; because of that, and more importantly, the County Commissioner’s decision referenced above, they are taking agenda item 6.f. off the agenda for the full board meeting and will revisit it in January after the County Commissioner’s study. They also cited the 1,500 ft. minimum stated by the County Commission.
Action Item
Send an email to all the board thanking them for keeping the public comment policy intact and for taking the 5G off the agenda. We need to compliment them when they do something right.
